McDowell Commits to Volleyball During Early Signing Period

Nov. 29, 2007

Fullerton, Calif. - Titans' Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Traci Dahl announced that Sydney McDowell has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Cal State Fullerton and play volleyball in 2008. McDowell, a high school senior at Mission Viejo High School, signed during the early signing period between Nov. 14 and Nov. 21.

"We are very excited to have Sydney playing in a Titan uniform. She is a very athletic and strong middle, and will compliment both Alex [Wolnisty] and Erin [Saddler] at the net," said Dahl.

McDowell, a 6-2 middle blocker originally from Meadow Vista, Calif., will bring additional height to the Titans' front row, joining six-footers Wolnisty and Saddler at the middle blocker position. She lettered three years at Placer High School in Auburn, Calif., where in addition to being an All-Pioneer Valley League volleyballer under Coach Jennifer Wright, she also lettered in Track and Field for the Hillmen.

"Sydney's versatility and athleticism matched with her size will also enable her to play multiple positions for us if needed," Dahl added.

McDowell's family moved to Southern California just before her senior year where she intended on playing for Mission Viejo High School, where her father now teaches. Unfortunately, the McDowell family lives just outside of the school districts boundaries, and CIF guidelines have prohibited her from participating her senior season.

The blocker has stayed in playing shape by attending clinics and acquiring personal instruction and will be playing with the Impact Volleyball Club for Coach Kevin Boyke based out of Fullerton. In Meadow Vista, she played two seasons of club volleyball for the Gold Cal Juniors, which posted a 31-2 record over her last two seasons and placed third in Gold Division of the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Championships in 2006.
