Titans' Gibbens Named to NSCAA All-West Region Squad

Dec. 18, 2007

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior defender Jenae Gibbens was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All-West Region Third Team it was announced by the organization.

Gibbens, the 2007 Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big West Conference First-Team selection, becomes the fifth different Titan in as many seasons to claim a spot on the NSCAA squad, following in the footsteps of forward Kandace Wilson (2005), defender Marlene Sandoval (2005), goalkeeper Karen Bardsley (2006), and defender Erica Janke (2006).

The junior, who was also honored with a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team for her work in the classroom (click here for full release), finished her second full season with the Titans with four goals and two assists to rank tied for fourth on the team in scoring in 2007.

Gibbens led a Fullerton defense that held 10 opponents to fewer than 10 shots in a match and helped the Titans to a share of the Big West Conference regular season title and the program's third consecutive Big West Tournament crown.

Fullerton finished the year 12-8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Big West, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season and the fourth time overall.

Gibbens was one of only two Big West players selected to the all-region teams, joining Long Beach State midfielder Hayley Bolt, who joined Gibbens on the third team.

The all-region teams were dominated by Pacific-10 Conference players, which earned 19 spots - six of those to players from 2007 NCAA National Champion USC. Eight players from the West Coast Conference earned all-region honors while six from the Mountain West Conference were honored.
