Late Goal Salvages Tie for UC Davis

Nov. 16, 2007

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. - Ahmad Hatifie converted a mishandled throw-in pass into a game-tying goal with 1:34 to play in regulation and UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton played to a 1-1 draw in Big West Conference men's soccer action Friday night at Titan Stadium.

The tie snapped the Aggies' 4-match winning streak but moved them into second place in the Big West with a 6-3-2 mark for 20 points. They are 11-4-3 overall.

Fullerton ended its home schedule and will take a 7-9-3 overall record and 2-6-3 BWC mark to Cal Poly SLO for the season finale on Sunday. The Titans are in sixth place with 9 points.

Fullerton played the final 9:22 a man down after Anthony Terrazas received a second yellow card. Both benches received cards during the match and a total of 12 were issued on the evening.

Michael Farfan gave the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, converting a pass from twin brother Gabriel, who had dribbled around a defender and sent a crisp cross into the box from the left side.

The Aggies increased the pressure in the closing moments and got the tying score when Paul Cain's throw-in from near the end line bounced off the hands of Fullerton goalkeeper Brent Douglas in traffic. Hatifie had an easy shot from point-blank range

Ryan McCowan made only 2 saves in the net for the Aggies while Douglas made only 4, two on back-to-back close-in shots early in the first overtime period.

UC Davis wraps up its regular season Sunday at UC Irvine.
