Box Score

San Diego, Calif. - Despite a three-run top of the ninth inning, No. 10 Cal State Fullerton dropped a midweek, non-conference baseball game to San Diego State, 8-7, Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Fullerton drops to 7-3 on the year, while San Diego State wins its second straight game against a ranked opponent and improves to 7-4.

The Aztecs plated runs in the first five innings of the game including a four-run second that gave the home team the lead for good. Starter Michael Morrison (0-1) was handed the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) over the first two innings of the game.

Steven Hirschfeld (1-0) picked up the win going five innings wile surrendering just two earned runs. The Aztec right-hander surrendered five hits including Titan senior John Curtis' first-career home run to right center. Stephen Strasburg relieved the Aztec starter, and went three perfect innings, striking out three. Shane Kaufman, the fourth San Diego State arm, struck out Chris Jones with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to earn his first save.

San Diego State out-hit Fullerton 9-8 on the night. Aztec third baseman Nick Romero and Titan second baseman Joel Weeks each led the way with a 3-for-5 night. Curtis' dinger in the third inning extended his hitting streak to 13 games dating back to last year's College World Series and his three RBI on the night led all players.

Nolan Bruyninckx and Justin Klipp pitched two scoreless frames for the Titans, with Klipp allowing the only hit between the two over the last two innings.

The Titans return to the field Friday night against UCLA at Goodwin Field. Wes Roemer's (2-1) first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
