CAL STATE FULLERTON ADVANCES TO THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES!

HOW THEY GOT HERE...
Cal State Fullerton (36-23 overall, 10-11 in the Big West for fifth place) swept through the regional hosted by No. 8 national seed San Diego last weekend as the No. 2 seed at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State. The Titans downed Minnesota by a 7-1 score in the opener before taking a pair from Fresno State by the scores of 6-4 and 13-2 over the next two days. The regional championship was the 16th for the Titans - their 11th on the road - advancing them to the super regional round where they have won five of their last six previous trips. Fullerton junior Clark Hardman was named the San Diego regional's Most Valuable Player and was joined on the all-tournament team by freshman Josh Fellhauer and junior Wes Roemer.

UCLA (33-26 overall, 14-10 in the Pacific-10 Conference for third place) followed a similar path to Goodwin Field this weekend, sweeping through the regional hosted by Long Beach State as the No. 2 seed. The Bruins opened with a 7-3 win in the opener over Pepperdine before taking games from Illinois-Chicago (3-1) and the host 49ers (7-4). Six UCLA players were named to the all-tournament team in Long Beach, led by MVP Jermaine Curtis. The Bruins are making their first trip to the super regional round since 2000.

SERIES RECORDS...
Cal State Fullerton took two of three from UCLA this season and leads the all-time series with the Bruins by a 48-22-2 count. The Titans lost the opener of the three-game series on Feb. 23 by a 6-2 count at Goodwin Field before rebounding to take games two and three by the scores of 7-4 and 7-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Westwood, Calif. Fullerton is 2-1 all-time against UCLA in the postseason, but the two schools haven't met in the "second season" since the 1979 NCAA West Regionals in Fresno, Calif., en route to the Titans' first NCAA baseball championship.
