Women 6th, Men 7th at Big West Finals

Oct. 27, 2007

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Juliane Masciana finished 19th among the women and Jeff Mackay led the Cal State Fullerton men with a 27th place showing as the Titans had a disappointing performance at the 2007 Big West Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.

The Titans' women's team finished sixth behind UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Long Beach State and UC Davis while the men were seventh behind host Cal Poly, UCSB, UCR, Long Beach, UCI and UC Davis. Cal Poly's men had a perfect score of 15 by taking the top five places.

"It just did not seem to be our day and we will have to live with the results," said Head Coach John Elders. "We foresaw the men finishing between fourth and seventh and they were seventh and the women we felt would be fourth through sixth and they were sixth.

"We can only look forward to the NCAA Regionals and try to exact some revenge on some of the teams that beat us today. That's our challenge.

"The women were positioned well at the outset but faltered in the middle of the race. Our pack time was not close to our capabilities. The men just weren't the same group we were earlier in the season.

"I'm disappointed. We are a better team than we exhibited today."
