Pair of Ex-Titans Qualify for Olympic Marathon Trials
Oct. 23, 2006 Fullerton, Calif. -
Former Titans Steve Frisone and Nick Arciniaga both have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, to be held in November of 2007 in New York City. Frisone, 35, was second in the St. George (Utah) Marathon on Oct. 7, finishing in a time of 2:21.55 to just get under the "B" qualifying mark of 2:22.00. He ran for the Titans in the early 1990s and currently is a mathematics teacher at Norco High School. Arciniaga, 23, placed 22nd overall and 12th among Americans this past weekend in the Chicago Marathon. Running his first marathon, he finished in 2:16.58 to easily beat the "A" qualifying standard of 2:20:00. Arciniaga is an accountant for A Snail's Pace runners' suppliers. The difference betweeen the "A" and "B" qualifying is financial -- Arciniaga received a $2,500 prize plus travel expenses to New York City next year. Frisone has a year to improve his time. |
