Fencers Win Two of Three Matches

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton placed second in a four-way fencing match Sunday, the only regular season home meet of the season for the Titans. Both the Fullerton men and women defeated Cal Tech and UC Irvine but lost to UC San Diego.

Led by a strong showing in sabre, the Titans swept the event 9-0 in both men and women vs. UCI on the way to a 17-10 men's win and an 18-6 women's victory. The men's sabre team went 8-1 on the way to a 17-8 win over Cal Tech while the women sabrists were 5-4 on the way to a 16-8 win over the Beavers. UCSD beat Fullerton 24-3 in the men and 23-4 on the female side.

Individually, Erike Diaz had the best marks of the day at 7-2 in sabre. Theresa Elliott was 5-4.

For the men, Jake Jennings (epee), Jon Ott (sabre), John Bellone (sabre) and Eugen Park (epee) all went 6-3 on the day.

Fullerton hosts the NCAA fencing regionals on March 2.
